Are we at the beginning of the end times?

I am not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination. I am a humanist through and through, but everyday I feel that our governments and our humanity is failing us. This morning I awake to hear of another mass shooting in Orlando, Fl one week before the one year anniversary of another shooting that happened in Orlando. There was a terrorist bombing the night before a fundraising concert for a bombing in Manchester that happened only a few weeks ago.

Who is doing the bombing and why? So far the major player taking responsibility for the bombings is ISIL. So in other words….religion is causing end times…a self fulfilling prophecy?

Religion, doesn’t matter which one you chose so long as the Old Testament is in their library of holy scriptures, talks about the end times and the signs that go along with it.

Now let’s take a look at some of the signs.

War on a large scale.—Matthew 24:7; Revelation 6:4. There is no way not to say there is war on a large scale going on. There are civil wars in several countries and the religious are constantly bombing those who do not believe what they believe.

Famine.—Matthew 24:7; Revelation 6:5, 6. With the droughts there is famine.

Great earthquakes.—Luke 21:11. Fracking is a major cause of earthquakes in the US where there is no fault line likely.

Pestilences, or epidemics of “terrible diseases.”—Luke 21:11, Zika, measles coming back, cancer increasing…

Increase of crime.—Matthew 24:12

Ruining of the earth by mankind.—Revelation 11:18. The US just pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord. We are fracking up the earth for natural gas to replace our coal all of which is polluting our air and our water.

Deterioration of people’s attitudes, as shown by many who are “unthankful, disloyal, . . . not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride.”—2 Timothy 3:1-4.

There are other “signs” but they become more subjective then the above mentioned. I think that religious or not we can agree that the above “signs” are definitely upon us.

But end of times, doesn’t necessary have mean the end of the world, or mankind. Maybe just the opposite. Maybe it could mean the enlightenment of the world to the unnecessary trials and tribulations of religion. That man and woman are enough and that no supernatural being controls us or our destiny. That we alone hold the keys to happiness and we alone have the rights and ability to protect our planet. And that the planet is worth protecting. How about we make that a self fulfilling prophecy?

America: The Story of Us

America: The Story of Us is a mini-series that is playing for six Sundays on the History Channel.  It began last night with the start of America through the Revolutionary War.  It showed things that were never taught in the history textbooks at school.

We learned that the first Africans were not slaves, but were for the most part free men.  It wasn’t until many years after the first few colonies were built that Africans were brought over as slaves.

We learned that the first “Thanksgiving” was a feast not because the pilgrams had befriended the local Natives.  But that the local Natives came to teach the pilgrams if the pilgrams would help them defeat another Indian tribe in the area.  The pilgrams did, and the Natives and pilgrams feasted afterwards.

We learned that the Boston massacre started because a riot broke out in Boston.  The British had orders not to shot but an American broke the line and got in a Red Coats face.  The Red Coat hit him with the stock of his rifle and a fight broke out.  Then the British opened fire.

The first piece of propaganda went out, drawn by Paul Revere, showing the British Army shooting an unarmed populus.  Using Frankin’s Postal Service the news reached all the colonies before England even heard about it.  The British removed all taxes except for the tariff on tea.  And still it wasn’t enough for the American people and they tossed the tea in the harbor… the Boston Tea Party.

We learned that the man that trained the Milita and turned them from a ragtag group of men into the bayonet fighting team they became was not George Washington but a Prussian General that Washington brought into the army after New York burned, after the British Army had landed, after the first winter in Pennsylvania and the outbreak of Small Pox.  This General wrote many of the military tactic and training manuals that are still used by our current military.  And the most intriguing thing about this man was that he was removed from the Prussian military because he was homosexual.

We also learned that Washington did not out lead the British army but out spied them.  Washington had spies in most of the cities and with the use of invisible ink and Franklins Postal Service, was able to get information needed to keep one step ahead of the British army and save their French allies on the sea from being wiped out.

We are really looking forward to the next installment of the mini-series.  Ane we will mostly be buying the DVD in the near future.
